2014 Grantee: MICHAEL DURKIN

michael (cropped)The Renegade Company, a theatre group that takes familiar experiences and ideas and reimagines them. Collaborating with the Barnes Foundation and the One Book One Philadelphia of the Free Library, TRC will create a work inspired by this year’s selection and that uses Iraq poetry to tell the story of an Iraqi citizen that has been taken away from his family and imprisoned. The performance will take place during the first week in March at the Barnes Foundation utilizing some of the artwork in the gallery. We hope to introduce the museum audience to Iraq poetry and understanding the Iraqi experience. SBMA funding provided for rehearsal time and actor stipends. therenegadecompany.org
