keilaKeila Cordova produces and manages World Dance Day in Philadelphia: a one-day community event with a mission to bring dance to a wider audience by presenting free classes and performances in an accessible outdoor setting. The event promotes positive community engagement, taking dance out of the studios and placing it within reach of those with economic limitations and easily accessible to those without dance experience. The mix is varied and fun. Outreach begins with letters to schools, libraries, community centers and local businesses about the opportunity to participate. Neighborhood families have said they really appreciate having a free family-friendly outdoor event they can attend locally. Dance artists who participate come together to spend time one on one with people curious about dance, promoting wellness and self-esteem. Keila will utilize SBMA funds to cover the venue fee and provide payment to the tech director and sound technician.
